Rick's is under new management (Steve and Mary) and they continue the tradition of
making the best burgers on Roatan. Tall Marilyn, who has waited table there for a year or
two, will make sure you get good service to go with the excellent food and well-stocked
bar. Steve has worked on the problem of excluding the rain from the restaurant -- I
couldn't test the results, as it didn't rain while I was in there this time. Rick's is
worth the climb.
Jorge Solomon at Monkey La La is now serving different ethnic foods on different
evenings. The Vietnamese food on Thursday evenings is wonderful. The Anafre on the regular
menu is as good as ever, and Jorge serves Mexican food one night a week, too. Monkey La La
is located about 1km west of Rick's on the main road at Sandy Bay.

FOOD-- I second Rob's remarks about Bite on the Beach. Really great food and decent
prices.
Some other less expensive options at West End: The Lighthouse Restaurant and Cindy's
Place. Both are nothing fancy to look at but both turn out excellant meals at very
reasonable prices. Lighthouse has Lunch Tipico at 40 lemps (~$4) that is filling and
tasty. Cindy's has a great Seafood Pasta (60 lemps or ~$5) that rivals fine Italian
restaurants in the US charging $10+.
In French Harbour, try Shantels (Red building, just before the canal bridge). Good
food and ICE COLD sodas. Tacos cost 6 lemps (50 cents) and are made to order, so get a
few.
Ric's Cafe has the biggest burrito on the island. It's about $5 but will feed two.
This is an american style burrito, not Honduran.
LODGING:
Harborview Hotel in French Harbour is quiet, clean and centrally located. Costs about
$25 per night and has hot water and A/C.

Looking for the most beautifil beach on Roatan ? Its right outside your room if you
make Cabana Roatana your choice of accomodation. Located right on West Bay Beach, you'll
be at the beach that others make day trips to ! And the snorkeling is great as the reef is
just offshore, and is an easy swim, even for beginners. The hotel is small, with only 4
rooms in a two storey building, and 2 other rooms under the owners suite. Prices are
reasonable, the rooms very clean, and the owners on-site to make sure everything goes ok.
Owners are Liz and new hubbie, Bill, both originally from the USA. Diving can be easily
arranged, and there is a "small" snack bar on site where you can purchase cold
drinks, beer, and snacks. The owners like to get to know their guests (if the guests like
to mix), but will also respect their privacy. You can feel like one of the family after a
few days here !

Located hanging over West Bay Beach, on a giant wooden sundeck, this unpretentious
restaurant turns out delicious meals using fresh island fish and lobster, as well as other
dishes. Dian and Gene are the owners and well Dian is usually found supervising the
kitchen, Gene is behind the bar. I have never had a bad meal here...not EVER...and the
portions are generous and the prices modest. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and the kitchen
closes at 8:00pm on other days, so don't be late ! Its a short water taxi ride from West
End, but worth the ride. Remember to say hello to Dian's three dogs, who are extremely
well behaved and don't bother the diners at all..so DON'T FEED THEM, or Dian won't feed
YOU !
