Etiquette:

The Hondo1 list as any other list has certain guidelines
that members must follow.

A. Honduras only.
The hondo1 list is exclusively for Honduras discussion. Any posting that
deals with another matter, especially those dealing with controversial
issues such as religion and U.S. politics are not welcome on the hondo1
list. In this list, the importance of sticking to the topic is greatly
magnified due to the large number of people who are in Honduras and pay
a lot of money for their Internet connection.

B. Do not send messages like, "Take me off this list."
Unsubscribing instructions can be found in the listowner's address
posted to the list periodically or on the hondo1 web site at
http://htw.marrder.com/hondo1. If you must, send a message to the
listowner at stan@marrder.com.

C. Be mindful of other people's feelings.
It is easy for a reader to mistake your "tone of voice" in an e-mail. If
you are discussing a hot topic, hold the e-mail for a few hours after
you've written it and reread it later. Be careful of areas that could be
misinterpreted.

D. Use a clear and specific subject.
A subject on your e-mail is important. Some people will even trash
e-mails without a subject. Make sure yours pertains to the text of your
message. If you change the topic, change the subject.

E. Quote the exact section of text you are replying to.
It is proper to quote a previous letter when replying to it, like this:
>Does it make sense to do a concrete block
>bodega without windows? What about air flow?
Notice the angle brackets ">". These are put in automatically by the
e-mail program. BUT. . many programs do this to the ENTIRE e-mail by
default, do NOT allow that to happen. People do not want to reread an
entire letter they just read. Just quote the exact section of text you
are referring, like shown above.

F. Do not use all caps.
THIS CAN REALLY GET ANNOYING. In addition, all caps generally looks like
you are yelling.

G. In general, do not send attachments through the list.
The Hondo1 list is configured to allow messages of up to 40k in length.
Any attachment that exceeds this size will be rejected and will not be
posted on the list. Keep in mind, again that a lot of subscribers are in
Honduras and download times are slow and expensive. If you would like to
share a photographs or large attachments with the list it is recommended
you contact the listowner of the list at stan@marrder.com   so he can
upload them to the hondo1 web site. There is a members' gallery there
where pictures can be posted.

History

The hondo1 list was started by Ron Patterson in May, 1997. He and partner Lynn Kilpatrick were working on a snail mail newsletter and needed some information. The list was originally a discussion on the entire Northwest Caribbean, not just Honduras. The title of the newsletter was to be "Budget Tropical Vacations and Retirement." It is still in the works.

The list eventually shifted its focus to specific Honduras issues and in July, 1998, Stanley Marrder, the webmaster for Honduras This Week Online and former listowner for the catrachos distribution list took over and remains as the current listowner. On August 10,1998 the hondo1 web site was unveiled.
