Yes, I believe it is safe to study Spanish in La Ceiba. Crime has grown in the recent years, but if you follow some common-sense precautions you will be all right. If you are going to study spanish you will probably be there for a while and have the opportunity to meet a lot of people.. The best thing to do is to try to learn from the locals about what to do and where to go. Good luck, I am sure you will enjoy your stay. Your worst complaint will probably be about the heat.
