I believe La Ceiba is generally safe to be in. But, and this is a BIG but,the street crime has been increasing there. I was robbed in central park, at high noon, with hundreds of people out and about. I let my guard down for just a minute and "looked like a tourist". I've lived in Honduras for the past two years, and this is the only bad experience I've had. In the cities in Hoduras, you must walk with a certain "attitude", so that you appear to know exactly where you are going, and move along as such. If you appear to be an easy target , you WILL BE.
